تتكون مقررات الدراسة فى التعليم الثانوى العام من مواد إجبارية ومواد اختيارية، ويصدر بتحديد هذه المواد وعدد المواد الاختيارية التى يتعين على الطالب أن يجتازها بنجاح، قرار من وزير التعليم بعد موافقة المجلس الأعلى للتعليم قبل الجامعى وموافقة المجلس الأعلى للجامعات.

تكون الدراسة فى الصف الأول عامة لجميع التلاميذ ، وتخصصية اختيارية فى الصفين الثانى والثالث ، وذلك طبقا للأقسام والشعب التى يصدر بها قرار من وزير التعليم ، بعد أخذ رأى المجلس الأعلى للجامعات .
