على الربان أن يتولى بنفسه توجيه قيادة السفينة عند
دخولها الموانئ أو المراسى أو الأنهار أو خروجها منها أو أثناء
اجتياز الممرات البحرية وكذلك فى جميع الأحوال التى تعترض
الملاحة عقبات خاصة ولو كان الربان ملزما بالاستعانة بمرشد.
