يجوز للمؤمن له أن يستبدل بالوثيقة الأصلية وثيقة مدفوعة في مقابل تخفيض في قيمة مبلغ التأمين ، ولو اتفق على غير ذلك ، شريطة أن يكون الحادث المؤمن ضده محقق الوقوع ، وذلك في الحالتين الآتيتين :
١- في العقود المبرمة مدى الحياة دون اشتراط بقاء المؤمن على حياته مدة معينة .
٢- في جميع العقود المشترط فيها دفع مبلغ التأمين بعد عدد معين من السنين .
ولا يكون قابلا للتخفيض التأمين على الحياة إذا كان مؤقتا .
