يصدر وزير الداخلية قرار ترقية الضابط بعد أخذ رأى المجلس الأعلى للشرطة، وتكون الترقية نافذة من تاريخ صدور هذا القرار، ويمنح الضابط من هذا التاريخ بداية مربوط الرتبة أو الدرجة المرقى إليها أو علاوة من علاواتها أيهما أكبر.
