يكون للمجمع أمانة عامة دائمة، يرأسها أمين عام ويشغل هذا المنصب مدير الثقافة والبعوث الإسلامية بشرط أن تحقق فيه شروط العضوية المنصوص عليها فى المادة 17 من هذا القانون ويصدر بتعيينه قرار من رئيس الجمهورية، بناء على عرض الوزير المختص وموافقة شيخ الأزهر، ويكون الأمين العام للمجمع - بمقتضى قرار التعيين - عضوا فى المجمع ما دام شاغلا لهذه الوظيفية.
